ndonesia has requested unused seats from the haj quotas of the Philippines, Japan and Singapore, says President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

“I made the request during a meeting with President Duterte,” Jokowi was quoted as saying by kompas.com in a statement on Monday, referring to his meeting with Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte at the State Palace last week.

He added that a similar request had also been made to Japan and Singapore.

He ensured that Indonesia would comply with the rules and regulations of the respective countries to avoid problems, such as the recent arrests of 177 Indonesian haj pilgrims by Philippine authorities on allegations of passport fraud.

According to Jokowi, Indonesia has formally requested an additional haj quota from Saudi Arabia. (dmr)
