urder suspect Jessica Kumala Wongso said during a hearing on Wednesday that she attempted to call an ambulance to help Wayan Mirna Salihin, who convulsed after drinking a Vietnamese iced coffee at Olivier restaurant in Grand Indonesia mall, Central Jakarta, on Jan. 6.
"I tried to call an ambulance but I did not know the number. Hani then told me she had called Mirna's husband, Arief. I was confused about what to do," Jessica told the panel of judges at the Central Jakarta District Court.
Jessica was responding to testimony from witnesses, including Mirna’s relatives, who said Jessica did nothing significant to help Mirna as she was dying.
Jessica also said she shook Mirna's hands in an attempt to wake her up. The action was not recorded in CCTV footage because Mirna's hands were under the table.
“I shook her hands and asked her ‘Mirna, what happened, what happened?’” Jessica said.
Jessica stands accused of killing Mirna by putting cyanide into her coffee at the restaurant. Mirna died on her way to the hospital.
Jessica added that when a doctor from Abdi Waluyo Hospital said Mirna had died, she was so shocked that she suffered from a shortness of breath. (bbn)
