tate electricity firm PLN has announced that the 35,000 megawatt (MW) power generation project is on schedule, with an ongoing power purchase agreement (PPA) of around 10,000 MWs of electricity from independent power producers (IPPs).
PLN president director Sofyan Basyir reported on the progress of the mega project, which aims to improve Indonesia's electrification ratio to 97 percent by 2019 from the current ratio of 88.3 percent, to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday.
"Now, the PPA procurement of almost 10,000 MWs of electricity is underway," he said, adding that he predicted the procurement process could be completed by the end of the year.
The company’s data shows that as of Aug. 4, it had wrapped up the development contracts for power plants with a combined capacity of 16,515 MWs. PLN hopes to complete the signing of the power-plant contracts for the remaining 18,485 MWs by the end of the year.
Of that number, projects generating up to 11,730 MWs consist of PPA contracts, while the remainders are PLN's engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts. (ags)
