eligious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin has called on Indonesians not to be so gullible and easily deceived by irrational offers made by cult leaders who claim to possess the power to mystically multiply money.

Lukman’s statement followed the recent arrest of alleged cult leader Dimas Kanjeng Taat Pribadi by the East Java Police, who have declared him a suspect in the murder of two of his former followers.

Dimas has also been reported for alleged fraud causing total financial losses of Rp 1.5 billion (US$115,500).

"Religious rituals cannot be executed through methods that contradict existing norms,” Lukman told journalists on Monday. (ags)
