View all search resultsakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama has said the crowded Kemang area in South Jakarta is not yet free of flooding because the Krukut River expansion has not been completed.
However, he guaranteed on Tuesday that flooding would recede in less than an hour.
“Of course there is flooding because [the flood mitigation project] is not finished. We can only guarantee that the flood will recede within 45 minutes,” Ahok said after attending a City Council event on Tuesday, as reported by kompas.com.
The Jakarta administration is still collecting data about buildings on the banks of the Krukut River because it plans to return the river to its original width of some 20 meters, from around 3 meters at present.
Heavy rain on Tuesday caused flooding in Kemang, including on Jl. Kemang Raya from Pop Hotel to Colony, with water reaching 40 centimeters deep. The flooding caused traffic congestion in nearby areas. (bbn)
