irport operator PT Angkasa Pura I Lombok International Airport in West Nusa Tenggara now serves a direct flight to Surakarta (Solo) in Central Java once a day.
“We now have a new route, from Lombok to Solo [Adi Sumarmo Airport]. Friday last week was the first flight of the route, served by Lion Air,” General Manager of Lombok International Airport I Gusti Ngurah Ardita said Tuesday in Mataram.
Ardita said the flight operates once a day using the Boeing 737-900, which has a capacity of 150 passengers.
He said the decision to open the new route was based on positive results from a market survey as well as to promote tourism. Both destinations are favorite tourism sports, Lombok with its islands and beaches and Surakarta with its culture, batik and culinary delights.
“The management of Adi Sumarmo Airport is also under Angkasa Pura I, so we think, why not have Lombok promote Solo while Solo promotes Lombok. It is to encourage visits,” Ardita said.
The flight is scheduled for 8 a.m. local time every day. (evi)
