ndonesia and Iran discussed the importance of international cooperation in addressing the problem of terrorism during a meeting between top officials in Jakarta on Monday.
"Overall, both sides exchanged opinions on how to fight against terrorism and violent groups," Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia Valiollah Mohammadi said following a meeting with Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Wiranto as quoted by Antara news agency.
Mohammadi said the problem of terrorism, which poses a threat to the region and the world, should be handled jointly between countries.
"We strongly believe that the fight against terrorism needs cooperation and assistance between various countries," he said.
If anyone, from any country, joins a violent group, whether intentionally or not, it is a cause for concern, Mohammadi added.
"Of course the Islamic Republic of Iran's policy is to fight terrorism and violent groups, and of course we do not favor anyone who assists and supports terrorism," Mohammadi said.
The ambassador said the meeting with Wiranto did not include any specific plans about how to combat terrorism. (liz/evi)
