ingaporean consul general in Medan, Mark Low, has said North Sumatra has huge potential in various fields, attracting Singaporean investors to form investment partnerships with relevant parties in the province.

“We invited Singaporean businesspeople of the International Enterprise Singapore (IES) to visit North Sumatra to see opportunities from which they can form a partnership,” he said after a meeting between North Sumatra Governor T.Erry Nuradi and IES businesspeople on Monday.

Among IES representatives attending the meeting were Yao Sheng, Demse Pereira, Lee Jin Sheng, Mami and Berlian.

Low said with the visit, the North Sumatra administration could hopefully give input and information on the companies Singaporean investors could potentially partner with.

During the meeting, Erry discussed a number of areas in North Sumatra that the Singaporean businesspeople could explore, including Lake Toba, which the central government aims to develop into an international tourist destination.

Erry said through Presidential Regulation No.49/2016, the government had created the Toba Lake Authority Agency, which manages areas around the lake. “We hope companies from Singapore can invest in the development of Lake Toba,” said the governor, adding the agency would ease procedures for investors.

Erry said the Sei Mangkei special economic zone (KEK), a strategic zone for the processing of oil palm and its derivatives, was another North Sumatra potential investment Singaporean businesspeople could tap into.

“KEK Sei Mangke is prepared for the development of factories to process oil palm and its more than 160 derivatives.” (ebf)
