akarta gubernatorial candidates will not be able to use most venues at the Bung Karno (GBK) sports complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, to hold campaign events since most venues are under renovation ahead of the upcoming the 2018 Asian Games, an official said.

"The Bung Karno main stadium and Istora Senayan stadium are closed for campaign events due to renovations," the complex’s management spokeswoman Rinpinah said on Tuesday.

She added that other venues like the indoor tennis stadium and outdoor tennis stadium, as well as Madya stadium could not be used for campaign activity.

The management aims to renovate such venues by no later than August next year to ready the venues for the Asian Games, Rinpinah said.

The only venues available for campaign events are parking spaces in the eastern part of the complex, the former golf driving range space and some plazas in the complex, Rinpinah said, adding that organizers need to attain permits from the police to hold such campaign events. (dmr)
