The government-sanctioned illegal levy task force on Tuesday arrested Pelindo III operations and business development director Rahmat Satria for his alleged role in illegal levies being charged at local ports.
“We respect the police’s ongoing investigation. If necessary, we will provide legal assistance for him [Rahmat] in line with the company’s rules,” Pelindo III spokesperson Edi Priyanto told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday evening.
Rahmat, a veteran in the port management business, was arrested at his office at Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya, East Java, on Tuesday, at which time the police also confiscated Rp 600 million (US$45,900) in cash and a number of documents.
The police claim that the investigation is so far focusing on Rahmat’s role when he served as president director of PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (PKS), a Pelindo III subsidiary in charge of providing container loading and unloading services at Tanjung Perak, the country’s second largest port, from 2013 to 2014.
Echoing Pelindo’s Rahmat, PKS spokesperson Erika A Palupi also said that the company would respect the ongoing investigation process.
Pelindo III operates in several provinces, namely East Java, Central Java, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara.
