elatives and friends will organize a special welcome for murder convict and former chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Antasari Azhar, who is due to be released on Thursday from prison in Tangerang, Banten, said Boyamin Saiman, his lawyer, on Tuesday.

Some 50 people will take part in a parade to escort Antasari from the prison to his house in Bumi Serpong Damai, South Tangerang, said Boyamin

"On Nov. 10 at 10 a.m. when Antasari exits from the prison, he will be welcomed by tambourines. Then relatives and friends will take part in a welcome parade to his home, in which he will cut a ‘tumpeng’ [rice cone]," Boyamin told The Jakarta Post.

Antasari was sentenced by the South Jakarta District Court to 18 years in prison in 2010 for masterminding the murder of Nasrudin Zulkarnaen, a director of state-owned pharmaceutical company PT Putra Rajawali Banjaran.

Nasrudin was killed in a drive-by shooting in Tangerang on March 14, 2009.

Antasari will be released on parole. He will be required to report his whereabouts to the Tangerang prison every month until 2022. However, he will be permitted to go abroad with prior notice.

Boyamin said on Nov. 26, Antasari would organize another event to which Vice President Jusuf Kalla and the former attorney general Basrief Arief would be invited. (bbn)
