n an effort to overcome sluggish premium car sales in Indonesia, Italian luxury carmaker Ferrari will launch a four-seater model to tap into the bigger premium market segment.

The Ferrari GTC4Lusso made its debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show and will be launched in Indonesia early next year to target upper-income families, said Ferrari Indonesia CEO Arie Christopher.

"We have always aimed at upper-class people with automotive hobbies. Now we hope to expand beyond that standard with a calm-colored luxury car with four seats," he said on Thursday at an event to introduce the car to the Indonesian public.

The manufacturing of the Maranello-based Ferrari is identical to that of two-seater supercars in bright red or yellow. However, the GTC4Lusso will be released in dark blue.

The company has yet to reveal the car's price.

Arie said Ferrari Indonesia had found challenges in making sales breakthroughs amid sluggish car sales in the country in general. According to data from theAssociation of Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers (Gaikindo), car sales from January to October reached 874,703 vehicles, an increase of only 2.5 percent from 853,089 in the same period last year.

"Our sales in Indonesia have been slowing since last year. With the current economic downturn, even those in upper-class segments are looking for more affordable options," Arie said.

According to data from Ferrari Indonesia, there are currently nearly 300 Ferrari owners in the country. (adt/hwa)
