akarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama is scheduled to undergo his first interrogation as a suspect in a case involving alleged blasphemy on Tuesday.

National Police spokesperson Boy Rafli Amar said the questioning would be conducted at the main building of the police headquarters in Jakarta.

“He [Ahok] will be questioned at around 9 or 10 a.m. here,” Boy said as quoted by kompas.com on Tuesday.

The questioning of a suspect was usually conducted at the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) office. For Ahok's case, investigators decided to question the governor at the main building of the National Police headquarters, the same location where he was questioned before the police decided to lay charges against him. Police cited security concerns as the main reason for not questioning him at Bareskrim.

The police have continued to investigate Ahok’s case after they named the governor a suspect on Nov.16. The police have questioned a number of witnesses in their effort of compile the governor’s case dossier.

Boy said investigators wanted to complete Ahok’s case dossier within a week. “It’s in our goal that the case dossier can be fully handed over to prosecutors in the next one or two weeks,” he said.

Responding to questions from journalists about the possible arrest of Ahok, Boy said it was under the authority of the investigators to decide whether they needed to arrest a suspect.

“On the investigators’ points of view, there are subjective and objective considerations they will first look into before deciding to detain a suspect,” he said. For the time being, he added, investigators said Ahok was still being cooperative. (ebf)
