-commerce platform Bukalapak expects to nearly double the number of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) operating on its platform by next year with support from various innovations designed to ease online transactions.
Bukalapak founder and chief executive officer Achmad Zaky said it planned to work with the National Procurement Agency (LKPP) next year to enable products sold on its site to be included in the LKPP’s e-catalog.
Bukalapak expects that such an innovation will increase the number of MSMEs joining the site to 2 million in 2017, up from 1.2 million at present.
“The purpose is to create more demand. The government has a budget worth trillions of rupiah to purchase various things. Hopefully, instead of buying from big suppliers, they can purchase things from small suppliers in Bukalapak,” he told The Jakarta Post.
Bukalapak’s etymology stems from the Indonesian words “buka” (open) and “lapak” (shanty), essentially meaning a makeshift store that primarily sells an ever-changing range of goods.
To help entrepreneurs boost promotion, Bukalapak, in cooperation with Facebook, recently launched an advertising service called BukaIklan. This feature enables users’ advertisements to appear automatically on Facebook’s newsfeed. At the same time, Bukalapak also introduced financing support platform BukaModal in partnership with private lender Bank Tabungan Pensiunan Nasional (BTPN). (win/hwa)
