Greater Jakarta: Transjakarta bus burned out in Cawang

F

irefighters were called to extinguish a fire on a Transjakarta bus on Jl. MT Haryono in Cawang, East Jakarta, on Wednesday evening.

The blaze, which brought traffic to a standstill for at least an hour, broke out as the bus, which was serving the Pinang Ranti-Pluit route, was about to arrive at the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) stop.

The driver brought the articulated bus to a halt around 20 meters from the bus stop and passengers were immediately evacuated.

Eyewitnesses said the fire was first noticed in the engine area at the rear of the vehicle, kompas.com reported. The bus was completely gutted in the incident. Several fires on board Transjakarta buses have been reported this year.
