ational flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has promised its full support for the country’s soccer team, promising to give free business class tickets on domestic and international flights to players and officials if the team wins against Thailand in the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Cup second leg final in Bangkok on Saturday evening.

Garuda Indonesia's vice president of corporate communications, Benny S. Butarbutar, said the free tickets were a kind of appreciation from his company to the national soccer team.

“Indonesia has a big opportunity to get the title of the AFF Cup. We are sure that our support could enhance the spirit of the players to show their best performance this evening,” Benny said in a statement on Saturday.

Earlier on Thursday, Garuda gave round-trip tickets to the Indonesian players and officials who flew to Bangkok for the game.

Besides giving away free tickets, Garuda expanded its passenger capacity on the Jakarta-Bangkok route on Saturday by using the larger Airbus 330-300 aircraft, which can carry 287 passengers, instead of the usual Boeing 737-800, which carries 162, to accommodate Indonesians wanting to support the soccer team in Bangkok.

Earlier on Wednesday, Indonesia beat Thailand 2-1 in the first leg match at Pakansari stadium, Bogor, West Java. (jun)
