T

he Indonesian Embassy in Ankara, Turkey, has issued a circular telling all Indonesian citizens residing in the country to avoid crowded places after the Russian ambassador to Turkey was assassinated on Monday.

“If possible, avoid places that are crowded and prone [to attack],” the circular said, which was signed by Dyah L. Asmarani, the embassy’s information, social and culture functions officer.

Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov was fatally shot on Monday while giving a speech at a photo exhibition in Ankara. The assassination came following protests by some Turkish people angry over Russia’s bombardment and destruction of Syria’s Aleppo.

Before the assassination, a bomb exploded in Besitas neighborhood in downtown Istanbul last Sunday, killing dozens and injuring hundreds of others.

“Remain calm and keep doing your daily routines while watching any developments around you,” the circular said.

The embassy has also told Indonesians to carry identification wherever they go and share their situation with their families and fellow Indonesians in the country. (evi)
