The government has decided not to increase the price of premium and diesel fuel, a top official has said.
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan said, “the decision not to increase prices any time soon has been made by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo in order to bolster people's purchasing power.”
"We may evaluate the policy in the next three months," Jonan said as quoted by tempo.co at his office on Tuesday.
State oil and gas firm PT Pertamina initially had planned to increase both the price of diesel by up to Rp 500 (3 US cents) per liter, and premium by up to Rp 300 per liter next year.
Meanwhile, Pertamina vice president director Ahmad Bambang said the price increase should have been done in October. “At that time, we decided not to increase the prices because we still had a profit margin.” (dmr)
