ess than 1 percent of the 28,000 students at the state-run Sam Ratulangi University (Unsrat) in Manado, North Sulawesi, have an entrepreneurial spirit, according to one observer.
James Massie, an entrepreneur observer at the university, said as much on Monday in a discussion about the spirit of entrepreneurialism.
James said with the advent of digital markets, students could actually market their own products using the internet.
The existence of incubator programs at the university, he said, was not enough to promote entrepreneurial development if the students themselves did not have the spirit of innovation.
“At present, there are 26 entrepreneurs managed by Unsrat. They came about by their own initiative and started their businesses from nothing,” James said.
A young entrepreneur, Andi Ahram Bunyamin, said the mistake many people made when starting a business was to focus on making money. Andi said the motivation should be beating the global competition.
“Look at the opportunities. We have to have grit. Passion comes later,” he said. (evi)
