T

he Surakarta Police in Central Java have arrested two more suspects as they continue the investigation into a violent raid allegedly carried out by members of a Muslim hard-line group at Social Kitchen, a restaurant in Surakarta.

"For the case in Solo, two more suspects have been arrested last night. Seven people have become suspects now," National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian said on Thursday as reported by Antara news agency.

Tito said he urged the Central Java Police to go all out in investigating the case, which allegedly involves members of Surakarta's Muslim Troops (LUIS).

"I have ordered the Central Java Police chief to develop its investigation further into the case, because it was reported that 50 people had raided and damaged Social Kitchen. I want them arrested to give a deterrent effect," he said.

Previously on Tuesday, the police arrested five people for allegedly vandalizing the restaurant and launching assaults against its staff and customers on Sunday.

The five people detained were the group's leader Edi Lukito, spokesman Endro Sudarsono, secretary Yusuf Suparno, physical trainer Salman Alfarisi and the group's lawyer Joko Sutarto.

According to the police, the group raided the restaurant because they suspected it sold alcoholic beverages and violated a nightly curfew. (evi)
