he four suspected terrorists apprehended on a houseboat at Jatiluhur reservoir in Purwakarta, West Java, on Sunday had planned to carry out an attack against the police during the New Year's Eve festivities, the National Police said on Monday.
National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Rikwanto said the four men had planned to carry out their attack using machetes and knives because they regarded the police as their enemy for foiling several of their attack plans.
"They consider police as ‘thogut’ [people who disobey God's rules]," Rikwanto said.
On Sunday, the police’s Densus 88 antiterrorism squad shot dead two suspected terrorists and arrested two others on board a houseboat at Jatiluhur reservoir in Purwakarta, West Java. The two men shot dead were identified as Abu Sovi and Abu Fais, the alleged leader of the group, while the two men arrested have been named as Rizal and Ivan Rahmat Syarif.
Police said the two suspects were shot dead because they ignored five warning shots and tried to attack officers.
The police are currently questioning Rizal and Ivan to learn more about the group.
The four suspected terrorists had planned their attack in detail with each being assigned a role. Rikwanto said two of the men were assigned to carry out the attack in a police station while the two others were to be on standby outside so the four could easily escape after the attack. (evi)
