View all search results letter allegedly written by a terrorist cell leader found during a raid in Purwakarta, West Java, on Sunday reportedly called the police "the troops of thogut".
In Islamic theology, the word thogut or taghut refers to those who worship anything except Allah.
National Police spokesperson Brig. Gen. Rikwanto said on Monday the letter was written by Abu Fais, the leader of a terrorist cell that was nullified by the National Police’s Densus 88 counterterrorism squad at a reservoir in Purwakarta.
The letter, Rikwanto said, contained Faiz's instruction to three of his followers to attack police officers, who they allegedly considered their enemies for foiling several of their attack plans and killing their comrades.
"These were his instructions to his subordinates," Rikwanto said in a press conference at the National Police headquarters.
On Sunday, Densus 88 shot dead two of four suspected terrorists, including Fais, and arrested the other two. The two men were shot dead for ignoring warning shots and attempting to attack police.
Rikwanto said the group planned to attack officers at a police station in Purwakarta using machetes and knives during New Year’s Eve festivities. (bbn)
