otorists will now have to pay up to Rp 20 million (US$1,480) to request a special plate number, as stipulated in a new government regulation on tax revenue issued last month.
Previously, vehicle owners did not have to pay a particular amount of money to request special plate numbers, popularly known as “pretty” plate numbers.
To get a license plate with only one number and no letters, a vehicle owner has to pay Rp 20 million, while a license plate with one number and three letters is valued at Rp 15 million.
The lowest tariff to request a special plate number is Rp 5 million, for which a vehicle owner can get a license plate with a sequence of four different numbers and three different letters that are easy to memorize.
