akarta General Election Commission (KPU Jakarta) head Sumarno has said the planned gubernatorial debates on Jan. 13, Jan. 27, and Feb. 10, will have a significant impact on the capital’s undecided voters.

"Several surveys say undecided voters will be greatly influenced [to decide who to vote for] after seeing the debates," Sumarsono said on Friday as quoted by kompas.com

He added that the residents would see the capacity and leadership qualities of the gubernatorial candidates in dealing with several city issues after seeing the debates.

"The debates will elaborate three things such as the capability, leadership and integrity of the gubernatorial candidates," he said.

Sumarsono added that each debate would be divided into six sessions.

In the first session, each candidate will convey their vision, mission and programs.

In the second session, the moderator will ask the candidates to elaborate their vision and mission while in the third session the candidates will answer the moderator's questions regarding current problems in the capital.

In the fourth session, the candidates will have a chance to ask questions to each other. Meanwhile, in the fifth session they will be able to debate each other before finally giving their closing statements.

Sumarsono said the debates, which would take place at Hotel Bidakara, South Jakarta, could accommodate 1,000 visitors.

Each campaign team would only be able to bring 100 supporters. (cal/dmr)
