T

he police have increased the status of a graft case surrounding the construction of a mosque allegedly involving Jakarta deputy gubernatorial candidate Sylviana Murni. The status has been raised from preliminary investigation to full investigation.

“It [the status] has been [increased to] full investigation,” said Sr. Comr. Adi Deriyan, the head of a corruption division at the National Police, on Monday as reported by kompas.com.

However, Deriyan said the police had yet to name any suspects in the case surrounding the Rp 27 billion (US$2.07 million) Al-Fauz mosque, which was built in the office complex of the Central Jakarta mayor.

He said as many as 20 people had been questioned as witnesses in the case.

Sylviana, who was the former mayor of Central Jakarta when the construction of the mosque started in 2010, has been mentioned in relation to the case.

In the upcoming gubernatorial election slated for Feb. 15, Sylviana is paired with gubernatorial candidate Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, the son of former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
