akarta gubernatorial deputy candidate Sylviana Murni has denied all corruption allegations against her, saying they are “nonsense” and are “seemingly being pushed” to obstruct her candidacy in the election race along with gubernatorial candidate Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono.
Speaking to journalists after a campaign event for young people on Tuesday, Sylviana said she had obeyed all police summons and believed the cases would not sway voters.
“I am pretty sure people today are smart. They cannot be distracted with cases [that I think] are nonsense but are being pushed [against me],” she said.
Sylviana has been questioned by the National Police in relation to two corruption cases: one surrounding the construction of Al Fauz Mosque in Central Jakarta in 2011-2012 and the other relating to a social aid program conducted by the city administration in 2014 and 2015.
A party backer of the former Central Jakarta mayor, the Democratic Party, has formed a special team to defend Sylviana in the two cases, which the party described as criminalization against her as the cases emerged suddenly and amid the election campaign. (evi)
