T

he Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) has called on the public and supporters of Jakarta election candidates not to worry about the possibility of fraud involving fake electronic identification cards (e-KTP) because measures had been prepared to prevent unregistered voters holding e-KTPs from voting in the Feb. 15 gubernatorial election.

KPU Jakarta commissioner M. Sidik said that on election day electoral officials at polling stations would prioritize serving voters whose names were on the final voter list (DPT) before serving unregistered ones.

“We will have the DPT at each polling station, so the officers can refer to the list when they’re serving voters. We will also prioritize residents who have obtained the A5 form,” Sidik told The Jakarta Post recently, referring to a form that enables voters listed on the DPT to vote at any polling station in Jakarta.

After serving all registered voters, he went on, the officials will allow residents who are not listed on the DPT to vote by showing their e-KTPs or a recommendation letter issued by Population and Civil Registry Agency (Disdukcapil), proving they are Jakarta residents.

The officials will verify the e-KTPs or recommendation letters to make sure nobody with fake documents votes, Sidik said.

Sidik acknowledged that the KPU Jakarta did not have a conclusive method to distinguish fake e-KTPs. However, it had requested Disdukcapil refer to the DPT before issuing a recommendation letter. The agency should also note how many letters it issues so that duplicated or falsified letters can be detected, he said. (ebf/evi)
