G

ubernatorial candidate Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono says he will establish talent centers across the capital for young people to express their creativity and turn their talents into businesses, if he is elected governor.

The talent centers, which he calls Kedai Jakarta, would be equipped with facilities necessary to create start-ups including high-speed internet and rooms where young people could discuss business ideas, exhibit their products or pitch their business models to potential investors, Agus told a group of young people at a campaign event in Central Jakarta.

Agus, who is running with Sylviana Murni in the election, would open 100 centers in total, and each of the 44 districts in the city would have at least two centers. He added that he would gradually realize the construction of the centers over several years through collaboration with the private sector.

"Young people today are looking for places where they can channel their creativity," he said during the campaign, which was held by the Jakarta General Elections Commission to address young people's needs in the city of more than 10 million people.

The architectural design for the centers would be as unique as possible while adopting elements of traditional Betawi culture and tradition.

Agus first mentioned the Kedai Jakarta plan when campaigning in December last year. He said at the time that Kedai Jakarta would be hangout spots not just for young people but all Jakartans. Visitors to any of the centers, he said, could relax while enjoying Betawi cuisine and music. (evi)
