he Jakarta Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu Jakarta) said on Wednesday that several bazaars reportedly held by supporters of Jakarta gubernatorial ticket Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama-Djarot Saiful Hidayat could be considered a violation of election regulations.
But the Ahok-Djarot campaign team claims it has no connection to the markets.
“We haven’t held any bazaars and don’t know of any supporters holding any,” said campaign team secretary Ace Hasan Syadzily.
Previously, Bawaslu Jakarta chairwoman Mimah Susanti said the agency found four bazaars, two in North Jakarta, one in South Jakarta and one in East Jakarta, were held by Ahok’s supporters during the campaign period. They sold staple food at 50 percent discounts.
According to Bawaslu, such bazaars could constitute vote-buying, which is prohibited under the Regional Elections Law.
Bawaslu Jakarta, in collaboration with the police and prosecutors, are investigating the matter. (bbs)
