he South Jakarta Police and the South Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU) simulated the city’s gubernatorial election at Ahmad Yani Square in South Jakarta on Wednesday to anticipate unexpected incidents on voting day.
Attended by police personnel and officers of Polling Station Working Committees (KPPS), the simulation started at 9 a.m.
South Jakarta Police chief Sr.Comr. Iwan Kurniawan, KPU South Jakarta chairman Muhammad Ikbal, representatives of the South Jakarta mayor’s office and members of the South Jakarta Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) were present.
“Ballot casting and counting were simulated. We carried out the simulation to measure the readiness of our KPPS officers as they underwent technical assistance training,” said Ikbal as quoted by kompas.com.
He said 20,811 KPPS officers had been readied to monitor polling stations in South Jakarta. Every polling station will have seven KPPS members.
At least 2,973 polling stations will be erected in areas across South Jakarta. “We will also deploy public order officers at polling stations. Each polling station will get two officers, so in total there will be 5,946 public order officers,” said Ikbal.
In the simulation, the KPU South Jakarta erected a polling station on an 8 by 10 square meter plot of land in accordance with the commission’s guidelines. During the simulation, all stages in the ballot casting and counting process were followed, starting from a voter entering a polling station and showing a C6 form (voting invitation) to election officers.
