ubernatorial candidates Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and Jakarta Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat have nothing special to prepare ahead of the last debate in the election, and plan to simply elaborate on what they have already achieved during their time in office.
“All Ahok needs to do is talk about what he has done and what needs to be improved. We don’t need to say something too ambitious or delusional,” Ahok-Djarot campaign team secretary Ace Hasan Syadzily said.
He said Jakartans should not doubt the commitment of Ahok to the empowerment of women and the protection of mothers and children because Ahok’s wife Veronica Tan had been active as the chairwoman of Jakarta Family Welfare. Veronica is also well-known for initiating the child-friendly integrated public spaces (RPTRAs).
The RPTRAs have helped children to play outside the house while their parents can gather together and chat. The parks are equipped with facilities such as libraries, music rooms, futsal courts and badminton courts as well as multi-purpose plazas.
In the realm of children protection, Ace said Ahok had built up a good record with his Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) program. According to Ace, the KJP program enables all children and teenagers in the city to get access to formal education for free. Parents of KJP holders can also use the cards to buy sembako (staple foods) and meat at half-prices. (evi)
