What do supporters inside the debate venue do that TV viewers don't see during commercial breaks?

Inside an auditorium at Bidakara hotel in South Jakarta on Friday night, supporters of the three Jakarta gubernatorial candidate pairs loudly cheered on their candidate and broke into song each time debate moderator Alfito Deannova Gintings, a seasoned TV news anchor, announced a commercial break.

During one break, a woman sang a number of Betawi traditional songs, such as "Jali-Jali" and "Kicir-Kicir", on stage.

"Agus.. Sylvi.. This is proof that we are your loyal supporters.. You will win the election," supporters of the Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono-Sylviana Murni pair chanted -- most of them standing on their chairs.

At the same time, supporters of the Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno ticket gleefully yelled "OK OCE.. OK OCE.. Choose number three!".

Wearing their trademark red-checkered shirts, fans of the incumbent Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama-Djarot Saiful Hidayat pair sang "I am two, I am two!", while giving the two-finger salute.

Apart from chanting, some supporters were also seen taking selfies -- even with the candidates while on break from the tense debate. (bbs)
