ncumbent Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama has been the most talked about gubernatorial candidate in the Twittersphere, according to Twitter.

Twitter said that Ahok’s Twitter handle, @basuki_btp, was mentioned in more than 2.5 million tweets. Meanwhile, Agus Harimurti was mentioned in 1.4 million tweets and Anies Baswedan in 910,000 tweets.

The micro-blogging site began monitoring conversations about the Jakarta election since the #Debat1PilkadaDKI hashtag started trending on Twitter on Jan. 12.

“The rank has nothing to do with certain sentiments of the candidates,” Twitter Indonesia said in a written statement as quoted by Antara.

It was therefore unclear how many Twitter users spoke favorably of Ahok when they mentioned his Twitter account.

Twitter also shared data about its users as it related to the third and final gubernatorial debate held on Friday night.

Public enthusiasm in the gubernatorial race peaked on Friday when the candidates squared off for the final debate. Twitter recorded 600,000 tweets with the hashtag #DebatFinalDKI. At 9 p.m. that night, tweets about the Jakarta debate were recorded as occurring at a rate of 1,800 tweets per minute. (ary)
