akarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama failed to gain the most votes in East Jakarta and South Jakarta, where most people voted for Anies Baswedan, according to a vote count by the city’s General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta).

The incumbent candidate won in the other three municipalities—North Jakarta, West Jakarta and Central Jakarta—and Thousand Islands regency.

In Central Jakarta, Ahok and his running mate, Djarot Saeful Hidayat, garnered 244,727 votes while Anies and his running mate, Sandiaga Uno, and Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and his running mate, Sylviana Murni,  got 222,814 and 101,744 votes respectively.

In West Jakarta, the incumbent pair was on top with 613,194 votes, the Anies-Sandiaga pair ranked second with 444,743 votes, while Agus-Sylvi was at the bottom with 203,107 votes.

In North Jakarta, the Ahok-Djarot pair was backed by 416,720 voters, while Anies -Sandiaga and Agus-Sylvi were backed by 301,256 and 142,142 voters respectively.

In the Thousand Islands, where Ahok delivered a speech that some Muslims believed to contain blasphemous remarks about the Quran, Ahok and Djarot were favored by most of the voters with 5,532 votes.

In East Jakarta, Anies-Sandiaga garnered 665,902 votes, followed by Ahok-Djarot and Agus-Sylvi with 618,880 and 309,708 votes respectively.

In South Jakarta, Anies and Sandiaga were also on top with 557,767 votes, while Ahok-Djarot and Agus-Sylvi trailed with 465,524 and 177,363 votes respectively.

"We will announce the official recapitulation at the provincial level on Feb. 26," KPU Jakarta head Sumarno said as quoted by tribunnews.com on Friday. (ary)
