mid the media discussion about the upcoming visit of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Padang Legal Aid Institute (LBH Padang) has pointed out that the Saudi Arabian king should not forget his promise to the victims of the crane accident at the Masjidil Haram complex in 2015.
“Thirty-three haj pilgrims from Indonesia were victims of the crane collapse, one of whom is Zulfitri Zaini, a 58-year old woman from Solok regency, West Sumatra. She lost her right leg in the incident but until now, she has not yet received any of the insurance payments or financial assistance that were promised,” said LBH Padang director Era Purnama Sari in a statement over the weekend.
She said LBH Padang had a mandate from Zulfitri Zaini to fight for the fulfillment of all promises made by the Saudi government.

Era further said staff members from the Indonesian Embassy registered Zulfitri, a math teacher at state junior high school SMP Negeri 1 Talang, Solok, for insurance and financial aid payments when she was treated in a hospital in Saudi Arabia.
“The Indonesian Embassy staff members said each victim would get 1 million riyal or around Rp 3.8 billion [US$ 284,388.58] worth of insurance and financial aid from the Saudi Arabian government. But since Bu Zulfitri returned to Indonesia on Oct. 2, 2015, until now, she has never received any assistance or compensation,” she said.
Era said that on behalf Zulfitri LBH Padang called on King Salman to fulfill his promises and urged President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to push the Saudi authorities to immediately fulfill their promises to all the crane victims. (ebf)
