he Jakarta Education Agency is reviewing the operational permits and the accreditations of three vocational high schools whose students were involved in a recent brawl in Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta, that claimed one life.
Agency secretary Susi Nurhati said on Sunday it held a meeting to evaluate the incident and summoned the headmasters and the foundations chairpeople of the three privately-owned schools.
“The Jakarta Education Agency is reviewing the schools’ operational permits. It is also in communication with the Jakarta accreditation agency to review their accreditations,” Susi was quoted by wartakotalive.com as saying.
The three schools in question are: SMK Budi Murni 4 and SMK Adi Luhur 2, both in East Jakarta, and SMK Bunda Kandung in South Jakarta. The first two schools have received an “A” from the National Accreditation Body, meanwhile the latter has been accredited with an “A” by the Jakarta Accreditation Body.
A video showing the brawl went viral. The brawl, which allegedly took place on Feb. 14 and involved 17 students from SMK Budi Murni 4 and six students from SMK Bunda Kandung versus 18 students from SMK Adi Luhur 2. The student who died in the incident was from SMK Bunda Kandung.
It is not clear what caused the brawl. Police said four students became the main perpetrators, one has been arrested and the other three remained at large. The police are questioning students from each of the three schools. (Saf)
