akarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama was unable to campaign on the first day of campaigning for the second round of gubernatorial election on Tuesday as he had to attend his blasphemy trial.
Speaking to journalists after the hearing finished at 2:30 p.m., Ahok said he would not hold any campaign activities that day.
“We didn’t schedule campaign activities for today because we couldn’t predict when the hearing would finish,” Ahok said before he left the Agriculture Ministry in Ragunan, South Jakarta, where his 13th hearing took place.

To make up for the lack of campaign activities, Ahok uploaded a video to his official Instagram account to thank and encourage his volunteers and supporters.
“Our fight is not yet over, we want to keep on fighting so that we can win the runoff. Once again, thank you, our fight is not over,” Ahok said.
During his campaign leave period, Ahok's position at City Hall will again be taken over by the Home Ministry’s director general of regional autonomy, Sumarsono. (ebf)
