he antidrug agency has seized 48.16 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine from China that was allegedly smuggled through Penang, Malaysia, to Aceh and then to Medan, North Sumatra.
Besides crystal meth, the agency’s personnel also seized 3,702 ecstasy pills and 454 Happy Five pills, National Narcotics Agency (BNN) head Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso said at a press conference on Tuesday.
The crackdown started when BNN investigators on March 1 arrested suspects identified as MUL, 33, and RIZ, who allegedly worked as drug couriers in Medan. Suspect RZ died after officers shot him when he reportedly resisted arrest.
Officers seized 39.22 kg of meth from the two suspects. The investigators then searched for other suspects including SY, 45, who allegedly acted as a courier coordinator, and AM, 32, the suspected drug receiver, Budi added.
BNN personnel arrested the two suspects at a house in Medan Sunggal belonging to HAB and his brother ZAK, both members of the Indonesian Military (TNI).

Inside the house, officers found 12.72 kg of meth along with ecstasy and Happy Five pills.
"We do not yet know the whereabouts of the TNI members. But we have informed the military command and the Army about this," Budi added.
BNN also arrested another suspect identified as HER at his house in Medan Johor, where officers confiscated 8.92 kg of meth. (rdi/rin)
