Pusamania, Arema bid for President’s Cup

The final of the 2017 President’s Cup pre-season soccer tournament will be played on Sunday as Pusamania Borneo is set to face Arema FC at Pakansari Stadium in Cibinong, Bogor.

usamania stunned defending champion Persib Bandung 5-3 after penalties in their semifinal second-leg match at Persib’s home ground on March 5 as the round ended with the host leading 2-1, 2-2 on aggregate. In the first leg on March 2, Pusamania enjoyed a 2-1 home victory advantage.

Meanwhile, Arema knocked Semen Padang out of the tournament with a solid 5-3 win on aggregate after two legs. In the first leg, Arema lost 1-0, but fought hard in the second-leg home match, beating the visitor 5-2.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, who inaugurated the tournament, and Indonesian national soccer team manager Luis Milla are scheduled to watch Sunday’s final in the 30,000-capacity stadium, the Soccer Association of Indonesia (PSSI) said in a statement.

Four players from the under-22 national team are expected to start in the match. They are Arema’s Nasir, Hanif Sjahbandi and Bagas Adi Nugroho, as well as Pusamania’s Terens Puhiri.

The third-place decider match will be held on Saturday at the same stadium.(nkn)
