epresentatives of drivers of public minivans and app-based ojek (motorcycle taxis) operating in Bogor, West Java, agreed to make peace during a meeting on Thursday.

Bogor Mayor Bima Arya said the situation in the city remained conducive following conflict between public minivan and app-based ojek drivers because all parties could now understand the objections raised by traditional transportation providers.

The mayor said what both parties needed was a clear regulation so that they did not face obstacles in their operations. It had been agreed in the meeting, for instance, that app-based ojek drivers could no longer gather at public facilities to wait for passengers. The agreement was hailed.

“We have met with representatives of public minivan and app-based ojek drivers and agreed that they will first discuss informal agreements while we wait for a transportation minister regulation on ride-hailing services to take effect,” Bima said.

In the meeting, both traditional and app-based transportation drivers agreed to cooperate in running their businesses and it was hoped they would not be easily provoked by unverified information. They also must respect each other and restrain from being involved in conflict.

As reported earlier, public minivan drivers in Bogor went on strike in the past week to protest app-based transportation services operating in the city.

Prior to the meeting, Bima monitored the situation at Laladon Terminal, where he saw many public minivans were not operating. He said he would encourage the Organization of Land Transportation Owners (Organda) to urge public minivan drivers to operate as normal. (ebf)
