outh Jakarta recorded 64 fires across the municipality during the first three months of this year, an increase from the same period in 2016.

South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency head Irwan said fires this year had caused Rp 1.74 billion (US$131,355) in losses. However, losses during the same period in 2016 were higher with Rp 3.56 billion from 56 reported cases, according to kompas.com.
"Most of the fires were caused by electricity short circuits," Irwan said in Monday.
He urged residents to be more cautious with electricity and especially to only use standard electricity cables.
"We also urge the public to frequently check gas pipes," he added. (fac)
