ublic transportation provider PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) is set to welcome 128 Volvo maxi buses, which will join its fleet in the last quarter of 2017.
Transjakarta and transportation company PT Steady Safe signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Jakarta on Friday as the bus operators for the next 10 years.
Transjakarta president director Budi Kaliwono said the city-owned firm was striving to optimize its services by, among others things, involving Volvo, a big name in transportation services.
“Our mission is to encourage upper-class people to use Transjakarta. We want to satisfy our passengers with Volvo’s reputation for safety,” Budi said.

Central Java-based bus assembler Laksana has been assigned to complete the chassis of the Volvo B11R-370. Another company on the team is PT Indotruck Utama as importer and distributor of Volvo buses.
“We are optimistic about fulfilling PT Transjakarta’s mission to deliver high quality, modern and safe buses and to provide good public transportation services,” Indotruck Utama president director Bambang Prijono said.
Apart from the maxi buses, Bambang said there would be a recreation of two vintage double-decker Volvo buses. The buses are expected to be unveiled on Independence Day in August.
