T

he Jakarta administration is staging an exhibition at City Hall's Blok G Building from Wednesday through Thursday to showcase products made by residents of low-cost apartments.

The exhibition, aimed to promote a creative economy among low-cost apartment residents, is organized by the Family Welfare Movement (PKK),

PKK chairwoman Veronica Tan, who is also the wife of Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, said she invited businesspeople to get involved in the exhibition so they could be directly exposed to the products.

“This is the first project that is gathering all [relevant parties]. And we want to have a follow up. We also invited NGOs to show them the products,” she said at City Hall in Central Jakarta on Wednesday as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

Residents whose products are showcased in the exhibition received training from the city administration at low-cost apartments located in, among others, Marunda, North Jakarta; Rawa Bebek, East Jakarta; and Daan Mogot in West Jakarta.

“So, we gathered NGOs, small-scale businesses and residents of low-cost apartments. The potential is there. The administration facilitates, but businesspeople are the ones who will buy [the products],” said Veronica.

In the future, the ground floor in each city-owned low-cost apartment will be developed to facilitate a home industry for their residents to generate income, she added.
