The country's second biggest party, the Golkar Party, is aiming to increase the number of female politicians it has in legislative bodies in the 2019 legislative election.
“We want more women from Golkar sitting in legislative bodies at the national level, provincial level, as well as regency and city levels,” Dany Soedarsono, the chair of Golkar's women wing Himpunan Wanita Karya (HWK), said as quoted by Antara.
The organization staged on Wednesday a national working meeting (Rakernas) in Jakarta that aimed to create programs in political education for some 20,000 HWK members across Indonesia, Dany said.
“We aim to place our best members in strategic position within the Golkar Party. After this Rakernas, we will promote political education programs within HWK in preparation for the 2019 legislative election,” she said.

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in its latest Human Development Index (HDI) report has encouraged Indonesia to push for greater participation of women in legislative bodies.
According to the report, women participation remains low at 17.1 percent, slightly more than half of the 30 percent quota for women in legislative seats. (afr)
