T

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) summoned Golkar Youth Generation (AMPG) chairman Fahd El Fouz on Friday for questioning as a suspect in a graft case related to Quran procurement at the Religious Affairs Ministry.

Fahd was named a suspect on Thursday.

The KPK also summoned several civil servants of the Religious Affairs Ministry and staff members at the House of Representatives’ Commission VIII, which oversees religious affairs, for questioning as witnesses.

Fahd has been accused of collective corruption in the Quran procurement project at the Religious Affairs Ministry’s Directorate General of Islamic Mass Organizations Management in 2011 to 2012 and a computer laboratory procurement project for madrasah tsanawiyah (Islamic senior high schools).

Fahd is the third suspect to be named in the case, which was initially investigated in 2012. KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah said as quoted by kompas.com Fahd was declared a suspect after new evidence was found.

Fahd is suspected to have accepted Rp 3.4 billion from the two projects, which were worth a combined Rp 14.8 billion (US$1.11 million).

Former Golkar Party politician Zulkarnaen Djabar and his son, Dendy Prasetia, have been tried in the same case. Zulkarnaen was sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined Rp 300 million while his son was sentenced to eight years in prison and fined Rp 300 million. (dis/ebf)
