ire broke out at a four-story shop house and spread to nearby buildings in the Blok M shopping area in South Jakarta on Thursday morning.
South Jakarta Firefighting and Rescue Agency head Irwan said the fire erupted at 5:20 a.m. at a restaurant on the second floor of the shop house before spreading to other shops in the complex.
The agency deployed 17 fire trucks to the site to extinguish the flames, he said.
“The fire razed three shops. We have managed to put out the fire and we are now cooling down the building,” he said as quoted by beritajakarta.id on Thursday morning.
He said his office was still investigating the cause of the fire and calculating the losses from the incident.
“We think it might have been caused by an electrical short circuit,” he said. (fac)
