Bekasi plans to build low-cost apartments for workers

The Bekasi administration in West Java plans to develop low-cost apartments for factory workers, an official said Sunday.
"We urgently need low-cost housing for workers," Bekasi Housing, Spatial and Land Management Agency head Jamaludin was quoted as saying by tempo.co.
The regency is home to 800,000 workers, mostly at several industrial estates, such as MM 2100, Delta Mas, Delta Silicon, Hyunday, Ejip and Jababeka.
"The Bekasi regency is among the largest industrial estates in Southeast Asia," Jamaludin said, lamenting that until now, the central government had yet to build proper housing for the workers.
According to Jamaludin, his agency had proposed using a 16-hectare plot of land part of the public and social facility in the Lippo Cikarang housing estate area, for the low-cost apartments.
