he Ramayana department store in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, caught fire early in the morning on Thursday, causing severe traffic congestion in the area.
The fire was first detected at 4:45 a.m.
The South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency deployed 23 fire trucks to extinguish the fire.
The fire erupted deep inside the building, making it hard for the firemen to put it out.
According to agency head Irwan, firefighters were still working inside the building at 7:30 a.m.
"We are still trying to extinguish the fire," he said as quoted by beritajakarta.id on Thursday.
He said it was believed that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit on the third floor of the department store. (dea)
