ive new foreign ambassadors submitted letters of credential to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo at the State Palace on Thursday as a symbol of the beginning of their official duties in Indonesia.
The five ambassadors are Ambassador Pitchayaphant Charnbhumidol from Thailand, Ambassador Jose Maria Matres Manso from Spain, Ambassador Fabian Valdivieso Egueguren from Ecuador, Ambasador Masafumi Ishii from Japan and Ambassador Dave Chandalal Persad from Trinidad and Tobago.
Four of the five are resident ambassadors based in Jakarta, while Persad is the only non-resident ambassador. He will be posted to Trinidad and Tobago’s embassy in New Delhi, India.
Jokowi received letters from the new envoys at 10 a.m. at the State Palace. Then the President, accompanied by Deputy Foreign Minister AM Fachir, chatted with them on the veranda of the State Palace.
This is the second batch of foreign ambassadors to submit letters of credential to Jokowi this year, after eight foreign ambassadors did so in January.
Five of the eight diplomats are resident ambassadors, namely Ambassador Jean-Charles Berthonnet from France, Ambassador Ouadia Benabdellah from Morocco, Ambassador Rui Fernando Sucena from Portugal, Ambassador Joseph R. Donovan from the United States and Ambassador Maj Gen Azmal Kabir from Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, three others are non-resident diplomats, namely Ambassador Issop Patel from Mauritius, Ambassador Guillaume Kavaruganda from Rwanda and Republic of Ambassador Thomas D. Kijiner from the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
