View all search resultshe tenth edition of ART|JOG, the largest contemporary art market and exhibition in Indonesia, has officially opened at the Jogja National Museum (JNM).
Art collectors and gallery executives from several countries across the world attended the opening ceremony of the one-month-long exhibition, which will display artwork from 59 artists from Indonesia and abroad.
“The world is not linear. It is full of uncertainty. This year’s theme of ‘Changing Perspective’ is like a Jeep the millennial generation needs to explore the new world,” GKR Mangkubumi, the eldest child of Yogyakarta Governor Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, said in her remarks during the opening of ART|JOG on Friday.
Young artist Wedhar Riyadi created Floating Eyes, a signature work in the form of bright-colored eyeballs specially designed for this year's ART|JOG.
The artworks are placed on a pond in the main building of the JNM, known previously as the campus of the Indonesian Fine Arts Academy – the predecessor to the current Indonesian Art Institute.
Bambang “Toko” Witjaksono, a curator with the exhibition, said "Changing Perspective" was chosen as the theme for this year’s ART|JOG to encourage people to have an open mind in facing an increasingly complex world. (mrc/ebf)
